Foreword

   Welcome to the first workshop.

This section is a preface to the initial diving course. I suggest taking some time to communicate with your future instructor before starting the course.

The writing was inspired by the read training materials for the courses taken, my own experience of diving in various conditions, diving encyclopedias (list of references), as well as communication with more experienced colleagues. Based on this information, I have processed the most famous diving materials and now ready to offer you a set of theoretical information and practical exercises, available in convenient media forms.

Additional materials will also be useful to those who are going to continue their studies. You will refresh your knowledge, practice some skills, get a set of additional study guides and videos, and get answers to your questions.

Disclaimer

Neither the author, nor international training associations, nor any other party related to this seminar will be liable for accidents or injuries resulting from the use of the seminar materials in practice, or when scuba diving or when inhaling compressed air or other respiratory mixtures. Scuba diving, including using underwater compressed air or any other gas mixture, carries a certain risk. Scuba diver can get injured, leading to disability or even death.

Individual physiological characteristics of a person and deviations from medical standards of suitability can lead to serious injury or death, even with strict observance of the established rules of scuba diving, taking into account the calculated oxygen limits and the correct use of tables. All those who wish to practice diving must undergo the necessary training from certified instructors and comply with the regulatory requirements established in their countries in order to obtain a certificate.

The use of alternative breathing mixtures, such as oxygen, nitrogen, helium or neon compounds, requires additional training in addition to the usual training courses. A certified scuba diver using air or other breathing mixtures should be aware of the risks associated with diving, and he is fully responsible for his actions. Scuba divers should not engage in diving and try to use air or other breathing mixtures if they do not want to completely complete the preparatory course, pass the assessment exams for a certificate, constantly maintain their skills and knowledge at the proper level through active participation in dives, and be responsible for any injury or death that may occur during diving.

The following statements reflect the author’s point of view regarding what should be considered as proper preparation.

Philosophy "The instructor teaches".

The underwater world is very different and diverse. Immersion conditions may vary drastically. Naturally, such a variety requires a different level of training and equipment. Diving courses are built on the principle of "from simple to complex" and involve the gradual assimilation of information and mastering more and more new skills to existing ones. At the same time, your diving instructor plays an important role in training, as It is the instructor who is tasked with assessing the quality of your training.

The diving courses, in the vast majority, consist of a theoretical part, a practical part, as well as tests and a final exam. International scuba diving standards are dictated by the international standardizing organization (ISO), and it is under them that the training standards of various training organizations are adjusted. Probably the reader will be interested to get acquainted with them. Let's deal with all the nuances in order.

Medical form. How to find out that you can go diving

The lack of medical contraindications is one of the requirements for training in diving courses. To evaluate your condition, the instructor suggested that you fill out a medical application.

"Read this statement prior to signing it. You must complete this Medical Statement, which includes the medical questionnaire section, to enroll in the scuba training program. If you are a minor, you must have this Statement signed by a parent or guardian. Diving is an exciting and demanding activity. When performed correctly, applying correct techniques, it is relatively safe. When established safety procedures are not followed, however, there are increased risks." (c) Medical Statement PADI. (PRODUCT NO. 10063 (Rev. 06/07) Ver. 2.01)

In addition, you will find recommendations for doctors conducting research divers.
